Dental implants are a wonderful solution for tooth loss — but you probably already know that by now. They’ve been booming in popularity over the past several years, and chances are good you know someone who’s got one, two, or maybe several dental implants that allow them to eat, speak, and smile with total confidence. If you’re dealing with tooth loss or are on the brink of missing teeth, there’s an excellent implant dentist near North Myrtle Beach! Dr. Emily Hortman restores dental implants from the comfort of the Palmetto Dental Associates office.
What’s So Great About Dental Implants?
There’s a reason people can’t stop talking about dental implants. They’re the only option providing a whole-tooth replacement, meaning they give you back the visible tooth as well as the supportive root structure that lies hidden in the gums. It’s this comprehensive solution that promotes oral health for a lifetime to come. The prosthetic root fuses together with your jaw to provide stimulation and nutrients to the bone tissue, preventing the collapse that is common with missing teeth and non implant-retained replacements, like traditional dentures or fixed bridges.
Additional benefits of dental implants include…
- Mimic the natural tooth structure for maximum stability and aesthetic appeal
- Continue to brush and floss like you’re used to doing
- Better oral health with a stabilized jawbone
- Eat what you like with sturdy dental implants
- No lisps or whistles when you speak
- No need for denture adhesives with complete dentures
- Dental implants last a lifetime
Dental Implant Procedure
Dr. Hortman restores dental implants for patients in and around Little River. When you come in for an initial consultation, she’ll evaluate your candidacy (more on that below) and decide whether or not you are eligible for the surgical procedure. If you are, Dr. Hortman work closely with an excellent local surgeon for the initial implantation.
After the implants have been placed, healing takes place over the course of four to six months. The jawbone will grow around the implants to provide maximum stability for our smile during this period. Once the process is complete, you will return to Dr. Hortman’s office to begin the final restoration, or when your crown, bridge, or denture is affixed to special abutments connected to the dental implants.
Are Dental Implants Right for Me?
Many adults who are missing teeth are eligible for dental implants. Your candidacy depends on the state of your oral and overall health. Periodontal (gum) disease or long-term tooth loss that has resulted in the disintegration of gum and bone tissue may affect your jaw’s ability to support dental implants. Bone grafting procedures can help create the proper environment for dental implants in these cases. Health conditions affecting the immune system, like uncontrolled diabetes, may also affect your candidacy. The only way to know for sure whether or not dental implants are right for you is to schedule an appointment with your qualified implant dentist!
